Biomedical Innovations, a premier Medical Device Manufacturer in the Colorado Springs area, is looking for a Molding Technician to join our Team!

This position will provide daily support to molding production personnel, including but not limited to: troubleshooting molding issues, machine and tooling set-up, monitoring operator efficiency, operating molding equipment, identifying and implementing molding process improvements. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating mold repairs with the tool room, including evaluation of repair activities; will work closely with Engineering to qualify new injection molding equipment and tooling; and will work under general supervision of the Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor and/or Manufacturing Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)

  • Follows all employee guidelines and Quality Systems Regulations (QSR’s) as defined by BioMed’s practices, policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure that customer requirements and FDA (or equivalent) regulations are met.
  • Prepare molding equipment; mount molds, change barrels and screws, hook up ancillary equipment, and prepare materials.
  • Operate injection molding equipment for both production and engineering product
  • Main point of contact to troubleshoot molding issues in manufacturing. Assist in failure analysis, troubleshooting, of manufactured molded product to determine root cause.
  • Assist the Engineers with revisions and improvements to process documentation, including writing change orders and deviations.
  • Main point of contact for mold repairs to be completed. To coordinate repair with Toolroom, monitor completion of work orders, and evaluate repairs to release mold back to production.
  • Perform new mold trials, document results and coordinate follow-up activities with Toolroom and Metrology.
  • Perform molding equipment and tooling installation qualifications per established procedures or protocols.
  • Assist in molding process development. Troubleshoot molding equipment, tooling and process issues.
  • Complete time studies to quantify processing times and identify areas for process improvements.
  • Assist with hands on training of manufacturing employees on new products, tooling, equipment and process revisions.
  • Perform tests, gather data, and write results/reports with assistance from Engineering
  • Supports periodic volume increases through build of production product following applicable processes and procedures.
  • Comply with policies, guidelines and regulatory requirements per the CEA Quality System.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Preforms other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's degree (A.S.) or equivalent plus 1 year of injection molding experience in a technician position. Or, at least 3 years of injection molding experience in a technician position. Or, at least 5 years of relevant experience in a Production injection molding position with a history of learning and increased responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Practical understanding of injection molding equipment, processes, tooling, and materials.
  • Background in plastics processing and troubleshooting Ability to perform all assigned tasks, work independently, and complete work on schedule.
  • Follow directions while displaying cooperative and positive behavior with co-workers
  • Working knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and efficient management of time and resources.
  • Prior experience in a medical device manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience in a regulated environment, such as ISO and FDA QSR preferred.
